Totaneros Jose Miguel Cano and Pepe Martinez "El Pichi" have met the challenge of crossing the Strait of Gibraltar by swimming, a joint initiative with rare diseases.

The feat has been to swim across the distance between Tarifa and Punta Almansa, a total of 19 kilometers.

As explained these two swimmers, the first two kilometers of its route, the water temperature was 16 degrees, while the rest was 24.

The carried out the July 28 arrival from Tarifa, due to the currents she went to Punta Almansa, near Punta Cires which was where the arrival was planned initially, which has resulted in having made 10.3 miles a 4 hours and 16 minutes.

The initiative has been to the benefit of D'Genes and AELIP as the two swimmers wanted to allocate the benefits obtained from the sponsors of this challenge to both associations.

These two swimmers want to contribute to the maintenance costs of the Multidisciplinary Center "Celia Carrion Perez de Tudela," attending weekly to a hundred users with rare diseases and their families by providing different services, as well as the investigation of lipodystrophy, a rare disease characterized by focal or general lack of adipose tissue.

Since D'Genes and AELIP greatly want to thank both swimmers initiative, which has allowed, in addition to raising money for rare diseases, which has given visibility to rare diseases.

And of course they want to congratulate you for being able to meet the challenge they had set a great sporting feat.
