The restoration of the paintings in the annexes of La Santa will reveal the original entrance to the cave that led to the construction of the chapel.
These works, through which it is adapting spaces for a museum, Casa del Santero, audiovisual room, among other things, let the light paintings of the seventeenth century, apparently part of the original entrance of the cave which led to the construction of the chapel.
The paintings, which are remarkable for their artistic quality and chromaticism, appeared when he was chopping the walls of the two floors of the facility known as "The Butler House", as reported by the project manager, Francisco Guerao.
In the two plants appeared a seventeenth-century mural are coeval to the interior wall and restaurateurs believe they are the same author for the lines and the borders.
On the first floor, is iconographically "The Massacre of the Innocents" and the second "Jesus of Nazareth on Palm Sunday" and "The Visitation".
As evidenced by the paintings found, apparently it was a single space and access to the Cave primitive as to build the extension of the chapel, the entrance was changed and since then enters the chancel.
The work, funded by a grant from the Autonomous Region, was paralyzed in 2009 with the appearance of the paintings and the original project was modified in order to restore and protect the mural conservation.
The Mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez, who has also visited the site along with the mayor of Infrastructure, María José Bedia, recalled that the recovery of assets has always been a target for Totana, and thus for the team of Government.
This project, according to municipal councilor, putting even more in value including the sanctuary, which is always an honor for totanera population.
It has also been requested in advance that a grant EAFRD funds by the Foundation of La Santa for the implementation of this museum.
