The City Council appeals to the civility of pet owners

Pet owners are urged to be responsible and not force the Local Police to make an added oversight of surveillance at this time when there are other priorities in terms of safety and emergencies.

The confinement forced by the coronavirus crisis motivates the citizens of Gandia to only leave the house to buy and walk the dog, but during this extraordinary period a certain relaxation has also been noticed by pet owners when collecting their droppings in the deserted streets of this town.

This situation has led many residents of Totana to transfer these complaints to the Consistory in recent days, given the usual situation of stopping to collect animal feces despite the measures of the Local Police, which has to punish people that do not comply with the ordinances.

In addition, some dog owners who do remove or clean up the dirt generated by pets after meeting their needs have denounced the malpractice of other neighbors.

For this reason, pet owners are urged to be responsible and civic, and not to force the Local Police and municipal cleaning services to carry out an extra oversight of surveillance and disinfection at this time when there are other priorities in safety and emergencies as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, has regretted this circumstance that dog poops have multiplied on public roads, despite the work of cleaning and disinfecting municipal services;

and he pointed out that "although it may seem like a minor matter at this complicated moment, it is not because it says a lot about the responsibility of a town and its inhabitants."

From the City Council it is indicated that the fact of having authorization to go out into the street, a privilege that many neighbors in full confinement do not have, is not exempt for pet owners from their civic and solidarity responsibility to collect the poops of the street and clean the environment properly.
