Enel Green Power España (EGPE), Endesa's renewable energy subsidiary, has connected to the network the new 85 MW Totana photovoltaic solar plant, which has meant an investment of 59 million euros.
Totana is the first completed solar project of the seven (339 MW) that were awarded to Enel Green Power Spain in July 2017, after the third renewable energy auction organized by the Government.
The photovoltaic plant, consisting of 248,000 modules, can generate approximately 150 GWh per year that will prevent the emission of approximately 104,000 tons of CO2 annually into the atmosphere, according to data provided by Enel Green Power.
The construction of the Totana park has been based on the company's "Sustainable Construction Site" model, which incorporates the use of renewable energy during construction through a photovoltaic system that covers the energy needs of the works, as well as the implementation of initiatives for the local population to participate in the development of the project.
The solar panels used in the construction will be donated to the "José Moyá Trilla" Day Center, to which EGPE has also provided efficient lighting.
Other actions include waste recycling and composting of the organic fraction during the construction phase.
Endesa follows a facility development model that incorporates actions to create social value for the environments in which it is built, the so-called CSV (Creating Shared Value) model.
Specifically, the CSV actions of the Totana solar project have promoted employment, prioritizing the hiring of local labor for the construction of the plant, as well as the local hiring for works related to the work, restoration services and accommodation of workers , renewable energy training courses for unemployed local residents, as well as environmental awareness programs for schools, the José Moyá Day Center and other local associations.
