The councilman of Social Welfare, Juan Carrion, has awarded diplomas to people who have been trained in painting and literacy workshops organized by the Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle", through funding from the Murciano Social Action Institute (IMAS) and in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare of the City of Totana.

These workshops, which are part of the Project Gelem-Gelem: Community activities in Totana social housing ", have been completed involving a total of 42 people.

As explained the charge of the project, its objectives have been to enable a meeting space where participants offer an alternative educational and training attractive and different from traditional and formal education, as well as promoting mutual respect between neighbors and to the environment in which they live.

Through this training activity, users were able to improve the physical conditions of sanitation of their dwellings and common areas as well as learning a trade through the paint shop, and have also been able to improve their basic skills of literacy, numeracy and Communication through literacy workshop.

The first of the workshops, the workshop "Literacy", which began on February 1 and ended on April 29, attended by 32 people.

This workshop had a total duration of 72 hours and there were two distinct groups in time and location: one of them developed into social housing in the street Argentina on schedule from 17:00 to 19:00 and the second group , was located in the Local Social del Barrio "El Parral" in time from 19:00 to 21:00.

The second workshop held was "Paint Shop", with a total duration of 56 hours between 13 and 30 April, attended by a total of 10 people.

This workshop was held in the building of social housing situated at Argentina and helped to restore a large part of the building's common areas.

From "The Candle" underlined that the completion of this activity has been possible thanks to the direct collaboration of the City of Totana and the local company "Fecarba Industrial Supplies, who provided free access to all materials needed for development.

In addition to the collective provision of materials "The Candle" has been supported by the Social Welfare mayor of the town, who expressed his "concern for carrying out such actions in addition to improving living conditions encourages the establishment of neighborly relations and neighborhood development of shared responsibilities. "

For its part, the Social Welfare mayor thanked the involvement of members of the Collective "The Candle" as well as technicians who have taken this project, through which these people have formed to further his education.
