The Local Government Board has recently approved the proposal of the councilor of Archaeological Sites, Juan José Cánovas, by which the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) is urged to carry out the works of correction in the Argaric House located in the La Bastida, in the terms and guidelines contemplated in the report of the municipal architect.
The Totana City Council signed a collaboration agreement with the UAB for the construction of the replica of an Argaric dwelling in the La Bastida field by virtue of a grant from the Autonomous Community, for which it was financed with 31,000 euros.
This infrastructure is a tourist and pedagogical attraction for visitors of the archaeological park, since it contributes to a greater understanding and perception of the Argaric culture, which helps both the educational community and the general public to experience what life was like at that time. .
There is a report from the municipal architect that shows deficiencies in the replica of the Argaric House regarding its sealing and evacuation of rainwater and adds that if necessary corrections are not made to the built building, it will undergo a rapid process of degeneration, or otherwise it will require continuous maintenance, of doubtful efficacy and high cost.
Juan José Cánovas points out that six months ago the reply was completed, and therefore was within the three-year term imposed in article 17 of the LOE for the correction of material damages that cause breach of habitability requirements (cracks, fissures, humidity, etc.), it is considered essential that the construction company perform the necessary works to ensure that it meets the function and durability required to a work.
This educational and museum performance has been carried out under the scientific and professional coverage of the 'Bastida Project', directed by a research team from the Department of Prehistory of the UAB, promoted by professors Vicente Lull, Rafael Micó, Cristina Rihuete and Roberto Risch.
The initiative offers a resource for museum, didactic and educational purposes, located at the foot of the northern slope of the hill of La Bastida, in sterile lands from the archaeological point of view and municipal property.
