The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed in recent months the operation 'FLAMAS', an investigation aimed at clarifying the authorship of numerous intentional fires committed in the municipality of Totana, which has resulted in the arrest of a person to the Which is attributed to the alleged authorship of 50 fire damage offenses in urban waste containers (30), vehicles (5), as well as furniture and vegetation of plots of public and private ownership of the municipality.
The value of damaged goods amounts to 50,000 euros.
The actions began at the beginning of the year, after the Civil Guard was aware of the occurrence of several fires of containers of urban waste and vehicles, located in the urban center of Totana.
These events had generated social alarm in the municipality.
Initiated investigations to clarify the casualties, it was discovered that in the space of ten months damage had occurred in about 30 garbage containers and in five vehicles, in a relatively small radius of action.
The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Local Police of Totana, found that, in addition, there had been another series of flaws in the hedges of a public school and a sports court in the municipality, also by fire.
For the extinction of the fires it was necessary the intervention of endowments of firemen who, in the majority of the cases investigated, had to go to avoid that the fire caused damages of greater dimensions.
As the investigation progressed, the Benemérita identified a possible male suspect, a neighbor of the municipality and with some degree of psychic disability who had been seen in the affected areas and shortly after the fires occurred, repeatedly.

This first line of investigation allowed the agents to investigate in the surroundings of this person until finding out that, daily, it went to a day center for disabled of the municipality.
The analysis of the indications obtained in the criminal scenarios made it possible to detect coincidences in the schedules in which the fires occurred and in the proximity of the targets that coincidentally coincided with the route that the suspect traveled in the morning, from his Address to that day center.
Recently, in one of the police surveillance of this route, the Civil Guard has located the suspect so, given the evidence obtained during the investigation phase, has been arrested as alleged perpetrator of fire damage.
The operation 'FLAMAS' has culminated in clarification of 50 criminal acts that have caused damage valued at 50,000 euros.
The arrested and the investigations have been made available to the Court of Instruction number 3 of Totana (Murcia).
