The Socialist spokesman, Rafael González Tovar, who announced that the PSOE will present amendments in this sense, underlined the commitment of the Socialists with the issue of water and the political will to reach pacts at regional and national level in this matter

The Secretary General of the Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia and spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Rafael González Tovar, thanked the Socialist Minister of Environment, Cristina Narbona, his great work and his commitment to desalination in a region where Drought is a big problem.

"I am very proud of a brave person who has fought for the solution to the water deficit of our Basin and during his term, with a socialist government, made the largest investment in our Region in Water."

Cristina Narbona participated this morning in an event in El Raiguero, Totana, where she has received the Golden Pimentón Prize for Rural Women.

The socialist exministra has demanded both the regional government and Rajoy to allow the use of water from desalination to be optimized and made at subsidized prices.

"I want to raise my voice so that once and for all governments are aware that it is time for Murcia to enjoy the advantage of having many hours of sunshine."

For Cristina Narbona it is inconceivable that in this Region impediments to access to an energy that has a completely free resource and increasingly cheaper to use, "a resource that would allow to desalar the water much cheaper and less polluting than right now" .

Narbona has stated that it was always clear that the desalination plants were an important part of the solution, "the only possibility of obtaining water when it does not rain either in the Tagus Basin or in the Segura Basin."

Desalination is a technology that Spain has taken to all the ends of the planet, as Spanish companies are building desalination plants in many countries, in a context of climate change that causes less and less rainfall, not only in the Basin Of the Segura.

"So we must bet that it is a technology that is increasingly affordable and less polluting from the point of view of energy. Hence the importance of the involvement of Administrations to make the water-solar energy binomial possible ".

Water Pact

For his part, Rafael González Tovar, stressed that the PSOE remains committed to the issue of water and ready to reach pacts at regional and national level in this matter.

Also, the leader of the socialists Murcia said that above all it is a question of making compatible the Trasvase del Tajo with a good use of the desalinated water.

"That is our bet, and it has been proven that it was good, more today, than we are going through a huge drought."

González Tovar supported Narbona's words regarding the need for a greater involvement of PP governments to make possible the water-solar energy binomial and that the cost of that desalinated water be accessible to farmers.

He recalled that the Socialist Parliamentary Group presented amendments in this regard to the General State Budget 2016 and will present them again for next year.

"We will continue working so that renewable energies and the production of desalinated water are a driving force that makes a problem like water in our region solved with solvency." Farmers need facts, such as those carried out by Cristina Narbona, and Less words ".

Mar Menor

On the other hand, the ex-socialist, Cristina Narbona, referred to the problem of the Mar Menor and alluded to his last visit to Los Alcázares, a few months ago, where he participated in a conference on the situation of the salt lake.

Then and now he has insisted on the need to give priority to the environmental regeneration of the Mar Menor, and that it can be made compatible with maintaining if there is the will for it - the crops in the Cartagena field, but evolving towards an agriculture with less impact, both By the use of chemicals as by the use of water.

"It is necessary to look for solutions that involve all the involved parties, from the administrations to the farmers," he concluded.
