The "Mateo García" library is awarded, for the fourth consecutive year, in the XIX "María Moliner" Reading Encouragement Campaign Contest with 2,000 euros for the purchase of booksThe municipal public library "Mateo García" in Totana has once again been awarded this year in the course of the XIX "María Moliner" Reading Animation Campaign Contest, which is held every year in municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, to through the Secretary of State for Culture, with the allocation of 2,000 euros for the purchase of books for this cultural infrastructure, according to sources from the Department of Culture.In it, which is promoted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the grants are summoned in competitive concurrence consisting of lots of books, corresponding to the current year, in this case, 2020.The selection process is carried out through the analysis of a series of criteria, which take into account the clarity and interest of the project for reading animation, good planning and feasibility, as well as originality and immersion in new technologies contained in the proposal.Through this campaign, the best projects or activities to stimulate reading developed in their libraries are awarded, with the aim of promoting reading among all social groups, especially among children and young people, who constitute the basis of future adult readers.Award to the 300 best Spanish librariesIt is important to point out that said grant should be used to purchase books and / or periodicals for the library, and that the bibliographic selection should be made by the library staff according to their needs and with the aim of completing their funds for the benefit all the residents of the municipality.With this action, small municipalities are encouraged and work to promote reading is carried out in places where there is very often difficult access to books, as explained by the mayor of Education and Culture.This program is of great strategic importance, since approximately half of the Spanish population resides in municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, so this initiative is intended to generate a great impact on the territory.Extensive program of activitiesThe beginning of the year was marked by activities aimed at Animation and Encouragement of Reading, Social Integration and Librarian Work such as: “Play theater, Traveling trunk, Nico and Sinra, A first aid kit for Elisa, Blind date, Tales of the world, Monday story, Open Classroom IES Juan de Cierva and Prado Mayor, French conversation workshop, Quitapesares campaign, Easy reading club for the Third Age center, EXILECOM, Imagination Workshop, Adult school, presentation of the book “A scientist in the laboratory ”, bibliographic selections… All of these in person. At the time that the pandemic affected us, the library changed its activities to online, the following activities being carried out in that format: Virtual storytelling, Red Cross brings culture home, Online reading club, Talk for parents "Tell me a story" , Reading guides, Videos reading recommendationsRemember that the library is providing a Book Loan Service at the following hours: Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m.
