| And, specifically, in the "La Purísima" nursing home | The Totana City Council has urged the regional government to expand the coverage of residences for the elderly at the regional level with new public places and more specifically, in the residence for the elderly "La Purísima" in this town. The municipal plenary session already approved a motion last February, at the proposal of the Municipal Socialist Group, given that the Region has a deficit of more than 8,600 residential places for people over 65 years of age.The national situation shows very significant differences between autonomous communities and only five of them reach the ratio of five beds for every one hundred inhabitants over 65 (Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Asturias, Aragón and Castilla León).
The largest deficits are presented by Andalusia , Valencia, Galicia, Region of Murcia, Catalonia, Madrid, the Canary Islands and the Basque Country. The same occurs with the price of public financing, both in own centers and in those that are subsidized, where the difference ranges between less than 7,000 euros per year in communities such as Valencia, La Rioja, Andalusia, Madrid or Catalonia; up to more than 8,000 euros in Aragon, Murcia, Navarra or the Basque Country.Regarding Totana, the last agreement of places was in 2016 with the expansion of ten new ones, going from 59 to 69, with an allocation of 81,000 euros from the Autonomous Community, a totally insufficient figure for the existing demand in the municipality.
