The Totana City Council has processed a total of 13 civil marriages so far in 2020, specifically until the second week of this month of August, according to sources from the Bureau of Statistics, in charge of managing this municipal service. This figure is much lower than those held, under normal conditions, in other exercises except for the pandemic that paralyzed the files that were prepared for the months of March, April and May. On the same dates of the previous year, in 2020, almost 40 civil marriages had already been celebrated in the municipal plenary hall. To start the Civil Marriage file, it is an essential requirement to previously go to the Totana Civil Registry, located in the Totana Courts, on Rambla de la Santa avenue, or in any Court of Spain. The couple must inform themselves in the aforementioned Registry of the documentation necessary to contract marriage.
Right there they will be provided together with the explanatory form of the necessary documentation, the instance for subsequent presentation in the Registry. It is recalled that it is the exclusive competence of the Civil Registry, so that a date for marriage cannot be requested at the Totana City Council until the contracting parties have appeared in said Registry to carry out the appropriate procedure. Once the appearance with the witnesses in the Civil Registry has been made, the couple can go to the Totana City Council (Statistical Service, ground floor) and request the date to get married. They are established as business days for the celebration of civil marriages in the Totana City Council from Monday to Friday, at noon; and on weekends, enabling the Plenary Hall for that purpose. The amount of the fee for each service is established in the Tax Ordinances, so that it is 60 euros from Monday to Friday at noon; and 120 euros on Friday afternoons and weekends.
