Totana City Council plans to promote an initiative to encourage writing and promote the development of "Poetry in the street", as it is called, thus responding to a plenary agreement established unanimously. The proposal, presented at the time by the Municipal Socialist Group, included that the Department of Culture organized the call for a contest of poetry and short stories that would make this municipal agreement effective. In addition, the same initiative advocates studying where in the city walls, walls and other public spaces can be used to write. The Department of Works and Services is also urged to refurbish those walls and walls, leaving them ready so that interested authors can write about them within the framework of said program.Poetry can emerge anywhere, in the era of brevity, where tweets, memes, WhatsApp messages and advertising slogans mark the preference for blunt communication, aphorisms live a rebirth according to our times.Everything is flooded by haste, the need for stimuli in concentrated doses, the relevance of the urgent rather than the important, and an increasingly impaired attention span is perceived, affecting calm reading.
In this context, micropoetry becomes a good way to give way to the need for sensitivity, beauty and thought. This proposal has to be developed in contact with poets and writers from Totana, who demand places where they can value their anonymous works so far, and in a sharing, we consider that the answer can be found in the streets, embedded in the pedestrians' daily life.Less and less people buy books, so bringing poetry to the street becomes an exquisite art that is worth enjoying. The agreement deals with a poetry contest with works that must be original and unpublished; and once this is finished, the finalist works will be transcribed on walls, walls, facades, etc.
chosen and conditioned to reflect those works to all passersby. In this way and gradually, the selected verses will decorate spaces transforming the streets into poetry notebooks, thus turning the public space into a friendly place with artistic borders, as one more element of the global transformation of our municipality in favor of people and coexistence.
