The Totana City Council wants to promote citizen awareness, through a communication campaign, to implement the need to change the social model of shopping and use of bags in the closest environment, such as local commerce and the Mercadillo Semana.This was already approved in May by the Municipal Plenary, unanimously and at the initiative of the Socialist Group; whose proposal included promoting a campaign to distribute reusable cloth bags by establishing a point of distribution and sale in the weekly market on Wednesdays.The agreement established the start of a campaign with the small and medium businesses of Totana to encourage the use of reusable cloth bags.This campaign would consist of creating a user card that would be stamped by the participating businesses each time the buyer used the reusable bags, upon completing the 10 stamps the user would enter a prize draw or enjoy incentives of any kind.The indiscriminate use of plastic bags that exists today is causing a negative impact on the environment at the local and planetary level.Despite the fact that for the first time it has been legislated to rationalize the use of plastics with Royal Decree 293/2018 on reducing the consumption of plastic bags, the Totanero Council advocates that all administrations should contribute their collaboration to reduce their use and reduce the ecological problems that are generated.This motion is presented as a first step to change the consumption model at the individual and social level; and likewise, awareness of individual actions aimed at improving the common environment through a feeling of belonging and common commitment, in solidarity with the rest of the residents of Totana.
