The City Council of Totana officially suspends the celebration of the Patron Saint Festivities 2020 in honor of Santiago Apóstol, which are traditionally held between the middle and end of this month of July, so as not to jeopardize the health of citizens and avoid possible outbreaks of COVID- 19, as well as canceling the traditional calendar of celebrations in the districts and neighborhoods during the summer.This was announced by the Councilor for Celebrations, Verónica Carricondo, who explained that the suspension and prohibition of holding parties in the municipal area extends, in principle, until October 2020, at the expense of evaluating the evolution and except that the situation due to the crisis indicates another circumstance different from the current one.The mayor has maintained permanent contacts and meetings in recent weeks with representatives of groups, neighborhood associations, party commissions and brotherhoods related to the organization of festive events to deal with the suspension of events planned during the summer season at parties both in neighborhoods as in the districts and urbanizations, as well as the great events of the patron saint festivities of the municipality, on the occasion of the COVID-19 pandemic.In addition, he explained that the municipal government was waiting to know the details about the guidelines set forth in the decree of new normality of the Autonomous Community regarding festivities, although this decision was foreseeable seeing the epidemiological reality of this summer.This has been one of the issues debated lately among the mayors and representatives of the regional Executive in the telematic meetings of crisis management on Fridays in order to adopt an unequivocal and cohesive decision throughout the regional territory.Verónica Carricondo has announced this measure, which was predictable for several weeks now, given current and planned circumstances in the coming months, where a strict precautionary and preventive attitude must be maintained in the event of possible outbreaks of the pandemic, she said.
