More than 80 seamstresses from Totana participate from their homes in the solidarity and selfless initiative to manufacture masks and sanitary gowns coordinated by the Local Assembly of the Spanish Red Cross in Totana.
This activity was promoted last week by the City Council of this town during a telematic meeting held by the mayor, Juan José Cánovas, and its president, Pedro Abellaneda, in which this coordinated action was agreed.
The Spanish Red Cross coordinates all the volunteer personnel and the work of preparing the sanitary protection material, while the Totanero City Council, through the Civil Protection volunteers, is in charge of the logistics by distributing tissues and collecting the already manufactured and sewn material.
People have been gradually incorporating over the past few days, in a private capacity and with an exclusively altruistic and humanitarian spirit, with the sole requirement of having a sewing machine and basic notions of cutting and sewing.
Women volunteers communicate through WhatsApp groups and rely on video tutorials on the Internet to unify sewing criteria in the making of garments.
The volunteers, in their attempt to streamline sewing techniques in a cohesive way, began last weekend to sew with other disposable fabrics in order to get a similar product from this workshop at home.
This fact has allowed to lighten the production chain since they have the verified material, in order to make it available to the authorities as soon as possible.
This home workshop has the invaluable collaboration of the company "Zambú Higiene, SL" (San Pedro del Pinatar), which has donated 3,000 meters of certified material necessary for the manufacture of all the material for free.
The contribution of “Mobel Sport, SLâ€, a factory for the manufacture of sportswear and school uniforms in Totana, is also being made available, which has made its industrial machinery available to mark and cut the fabric in order to facilitate the task of voluntary.
The aim of the Spanish Red Cross in this municipality is to manufacture 2,000 pieces per week, both of masks and gowns;
in such a way that Civil Protection transfers and collects all the material made in the different homes on specific days a week.
The first 400 masks will be taken to the two Health Centers and the Nursing Home "La Purísima"
All this material, as it is manufactured, will be made available to the Totana City Council, which will be the institution that will distribute this material among the most needy professional and neighborhood groups in this municipality.
In this way, it will be distributed as of next week among the most needy and vulnerable social sectors, such as professionals from the Health Centers, Post, Bodies and Security Forces, Local Police, agricultural workers, families in need or at risk of social exclusion, among others.
The Totana City Council wants to thank and congratulate the President and Vice President of the Red Cross in this town, Pedro Abellaneda and Isabel Pascual Mellinas, for their commendable task of coordination and push to make this altruistic initiative a reality and put it at the service of society at the moment. so difficult.
