The 'Encesta glass, we all win' awareness campaign has allowed us to collect more than 18 tons of glass containers in the 12 participating municipalities.
The municipalities that have participated in this campaign have been Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Torre Pacheco, Ãguilas, Cieza, Yecla, Totana, San Javier and Mazarrón.
With the collected glass, the outer track of the Prince of Asturias Pavilion in Murcia has been renovated, which was the winning municipality and becomes the first sports surface in the Region made with a resin finish composed of glass from recycling.
The municipality of Murcia has stood out over the other participants in volume of collected glass and in the actions to involve the youngest population in the campaign, among other aspects.
The campaign began on October 28 through the main regional media, press, radio, television and digital media.
The message related the practice of a sport like basketball with other healthy habits for the planet, such as the recycling of glass containers;
and reached 1,080,000 people, equivalent to 73 percent of the regional population.
The glass that is deposited in the green containers is recycled one hundred percent and is used to manufacture new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.
By recycling glass we avoid the growth of landfills and contribute to the fight against climate change, since using calcine (recycled glass) in the manufacture of new containers prevents the extraction of raw materials from nature, avoiding the erosion of soils and deforestation.
In addition, the emission of CO2 in the manufacturing process is minimized and energy is saved.
