The Socialist Municipal Group has presented a motion to the plenary on January 30 to regulate the use of pyrotechnics in our municipality, as is already being done in other municipalities in Spain.
The use of firecrackers causes negative consequences in the elderly, infants, the sick and especially in our pets.
For example, for people with autism spectrum disorders, the explosions involve torture as they cause crises, aggressive attitudes and even self-harm.
Also people suffering from Alzheimer's, dizziness or other mental illnesses can cause disorientation, headaches, nervousness and stress.
Babies can also suffer the consequences of the use of pyrotechnics, since there are studies that show that it can cause tinnitus and hearing loss, sometimes momentary, but sometimes irreversible, so specialists recommend that protections be placed on the ears to children who should be exposed to such extreme noises.
On the other hand, we have animals.
Various animal associations such as the ATEA (Association for Ethical Treatment of Animals) denounce the dangers of pyrotechnics to our pets.
Its effects range from tachycardia, tremor, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, loss of control, even fear of death.
Cats and dogs feel fear and run away, which can cause an accident or get lost, we check this by seeing their unusual behavior, such as escaping, jumping, or going through windows and this can cause serious injuries.
That is why, the Socialist Group in order to achieve a more inclusive and respectful Totana not only with people, but also with our animals, presents this motion with the following agreements:
FIRST.- Establish a calendar where the days and times allowed to make use of pyrotechnic material are set.
SECOND.- Conduct information and awareness campaigns on the negative effects of the indiscriminate use of pyrotechnic material and domestic measures to mitigate the effects described: in Teaching Centers, Health Centers, Social Networks, official page of the City Council, different media or other alternatives deemed appropriate.
THIRD.- Regulation of the use of firecrackers on public roads by individuals, as established by the corresponding municipal services.
FOUR.- The City Council of Totana will promote the transition from the current pyrotechnic show to new forms of visual spectacle such as silent pyrotechnics or laser light shows.
