The City Council of Totana will make an institutional tribute to the family of potters Tudela with the placement of a commemorative plaque next to the Monument to the Potter, this Sunday, January 26, at 12.30 pm;
thus giving the plenary compliance of last March 2019.
The Consistory totanero agreed, in said ordinary session, to make a public recognition of the figures of Francisco Tudela Tomás and Francisco Javier Tudela, as genuine representatives of the generations of this family of potters of Totana, and of this ancient and noble trade.
For this reason, the mayor, Juan José Cánovas, and the Councilor for Crafts, Verónica Carricondo, accompanied by the honored protagonists, will discover the commemorative plaque made in recognition of both potters, located next to the Monument to the Potter, in front of the old Technological Center of Crafts, at the intersections of Rambla de La Santa Avenue and Don José María Street.
The Tudela family currently represents the seventh generation in the person of Francisco Javier Tudela;
who obtained in 2015 the National Handicraft Prize in the Innovation and Development modality, a potter who demonstrates on a day-to-day basis his ability to improve, overcome difficulties and exhibit his works of art in mud in different places of the Region of Murcia and Spain.
His father, Francisco Tudela Tomás, is another example of a craftsman who has transmitted his ability and imagination;
and who along with his brother Conrado and his father Bartholomew, kept the job on Caridad Street, next to the Rambla de La Santa until a few years ago, going on to expand and modernize their facilities on the current Mazarrón road.
These are living examples of a saga of artisans dating back to 1786, giving the circumstance that Francisco Tudela Tomás served as Councilor for Handicrafts of the City of Totana for years, with a management committed to the sector and in defense of the potters and craftsmen in the time that assumed this responsibility.
The Department of Crafts publicly invites all the artisans and potters of Totana who want to join the simple institutional tribute of this family of potters, as well as people interested in defending this noble and bizarre profession rooted in the social and economic development of this municipality.
