The Department of Equality reports that the Center of Specialized Care for Women Victims of Gender Violence of Totana (CAVI) has carried out during this year and until this month of October a total of 1,102 interventions with 217 women, of which 76 of them are They correspond to new cases.

Since 2008 this service was launched, a total of 865 women have been attended, according to the same municipal sources, coinciding tomorrow with the celebration of the International Day of the Fight against Gender Violence.

The countries of origin of these cases are mainly Spain, Bolivia, Ecuador, Morocco, Brazil, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau, Guatemala, Peru, Honduras, Mali, Nicaragua, Ukraine, Latvia, France and some with dual nationality.

The ages of women cover a wide range from 14 to 60 years, respectively.

Totana City Council has been working, through the Department of Women and Equality, against Gender Violence since 2008, through two mechanisms that have been the basis for the journey that has been carried out in the last 10 years, through the implementation and consolidation of the Center for Specialized Care for Women Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI) and the Commission on Gender Violence, Local Coordination Board (MLC).

In 2013, both mechanisms took new structure and functions, transforming.

The Center for Specialized Care for Women Victims of Gender Violence, previously called CAVI Totana, and which covered the care of women belonging to the municipalities of Totana and Aledo, became the CAVI Bajo Guadalentín, expanding its activities to the municipalities from Alhama de Murcia and Librilla.

The Gender Violence Commission, became part of the guideline that the Service of Planning and Programs of Prevention of Gender Violence, belonging to the General Directorate of Social Policy, becoming the Local Coordination Board.

In this sense, it resulted in Totana becoming one of the pioneer municipalities by having created a space to promote the coordination of the different instances involved in the fight against gender violence and enhance the implementation of coordination tables Municipalities that bring together professionals who from different fields attend to women victims of gender violence.

In addition, coordination of the competent Department in the care of women victims of gender violence with that of Public Safety is guaranteed, in order to provide greater protection for women victims of violence in their municipality.

In 2014, the Totana Coordination Police Bureau was created, whose objective is to create work sessions where coordination and collaboration between the security forces and bodies of the municipality of Totana and CAVI Bajo Guadalentín were a priority, not only for intervention with the Women victims of gender violence, but also create prevention actions.

In October 2018, thanks to the State Pact against Gender Violence, whose purpose is to adopt the appropriate legal modifications so that the local Administration can carry out actions in the promotion of equality between men and women, there is an extension of the CAVIs, returning the Center of Attention of Women Victims of Gender Violence of the municipality to have the competencies and denomination of CAVI of Totana, attending to the municipality of Aledo and Totana.

On June 28, 2019, the Local Coordination Board (MLC) and the Local Police Coordination Board (MCP) have been convened, the second meeting of this year, where the agents involved in both tables were able to carry out a pooling of the actions and interventions carried out in this first semester of the year, to make an assessment and provide new proposals to improve for prevention, awareness and intervention against Gender Violence in the municipality.

This work sees its fruit in the referral of women to CAVI, being mostly referrals by the Security Forces and Bodies, followed by the social, health and education area.

And the request for intervention of the CAVI has also been increased, by the women themselves when informed by the other services.
