The Department of Sports of the City of Totana has carried out the School Sports program in all schools of the town in the last school year 2018/19, in collaboration with teachers and teachers of Physical Education, the General Directorate of Sports of the Region of Murcia, and also with the support of the sports clubs of Chess, Badminton, Table Tennis, Petanque and Orientation.
The participation in this past school year has been excellent as usual, with 2,069 schoolchildren who have studied in the different sports modalities offered, both in team sports (Basketball, Handball, Indoor Soccer and Volleyball), as well as in individual sports (Athletics, Chess, Badminton, Popular Race, Table Tennis, Petanque and Orientation).
The competitions of all these sports disciplines have been carried out throughout the school year on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, in the case of team sports;
and on Saturday mornings, in individual sports, in the municipal sports facilities of the Sports Pavilion "Manolo Ibáñez", School Hall and Municipal Sports Center "December 6".
The school sport competitions have been structured throughout the course in three phases: 1st) Local Phase, where competitions have been organized with the Totana teaching centers;
2nd) Intermunicipal Phase, where the champion teams of the local phases of Alhama, Librilla, Aledo, Mazarrón, Ãguilas and Totana have participated, all of them in group 1;
and 3rd) Regional Finals, where the champion teams of the intermunicipal phases of the other seven groups that make up the Region of Murcia have participated.
Regarding the results of the Local Phase, the Reina Sofía College, which has achieved up to ten first places in the sports modalities of Badminton, Popular Race, Handball, Minivoley, Playing Athletics and Table Tennis, should be highlighted in primary education.
He has also highlighted the Colegio Deitania, with five first places in Athletics, Basketball, Handball and Petanque.
And finally, also the College La Cruz has stood out with four first places in the sports modalities of Popular Race, Futsal, Orientation and Multisport.
On the other hand, regarding Secondary education, the IES Juan de la Cierva has been the clear dominator, with thirteen first positions, in the modalities of Chess, Popular Race, Basketball, Handball, Indoor Soccer, Orientation and Table Tennis.
Regarding the results of the Regional Phase, the teaching centers of Totana have won a total of six titles of regional champions, and more specifically the IES Prado Mayor has been the most successful center with three first places in Badminton modalities , Petanque and Orientation.
With two titles of regional champion, the Colegio Santiago has been placed in the disciplines of 3x3 Benjamin Basketball and Table Tennis.
And finally, the Reina Sofía College has achieved the first regional position in the Table Tennis modality.
Finally, it should be noted that the Sports Pavilion "Manolo Ibáñez" of Totana has hosted in this past school year the Regional Badminton Final of School Sports, organized by the General Directorate of Sports of the Region of Murcia, with the collaboration of the Department of Sports of the City of Totana.
