The Mayor, Andrés García, and the Councilor for Culture, Eulalia Moreno, have handed over to Caritas representatives in the two parishes of Totana, Santiago El Mayor and the Convent of the Three Hail Marys, the non-perishable food and toiletries collected during the campaign promoted by the municipal library "Mateo García" by the users of this public service for the program of activities organized to mark the Day of the Book.
The campaign was carried out from April 4 to May 10 by the municipal technicians of the public library located in the Sociocultural Center "La Cárcel", and has allowed, as in previous years, the collection of food in the different cultural activities promoted in this time and especially on the part of the people who make habitual use of this public service.
Present at the ceremony were the representatives of both Cáritas, Pedro Vélez and Rafael Hostench, who reported that, at present, they are serving more than 500 families in Totana, of which in a very high percentage of the population it is fluctuating because it is in function of labor seasonality.
Caritas in the two parishes of Totana has been providing other services such as medicines, school support, food, clothing, domestic savings help with the receipt of basic services and legal and psychological advice, among others.
With this initiative, it was intended that each user who carries a non-perishable food will take a duplicate book from the municipal library, which has once again been widely accepted by users.
The councilor and the head of Cáritas have thanked the librarians and the people who have collaborated in this solidarity action for their participation and donation of food to help the most needy families of Totana;
and they assured that a good distribution and use of these will be made.
