The City Council of Totana and the University of Murcia (UMU) have recently signed the collaboration agreement by which the academic institution will maintain the permanent headquarters of university extension in this municipality for the next four years, after it will be implemented once first and will begin its operation in May 2017.
The Mayor, Andrés García, and the Vice Chancellor of International Relations, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, Alicia Rubio, on behalf of the Rector of the UMU, José Luján, have signed the agreement for the maintenance of this headquarters, which promotes the promotion of cultural, scientific and social activity in each of the more than 30 municipalities where it has been implemented.
In this act, which was held in the municipal plenary hall, were also present, the Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, the current director of the permanent headquarters of university extension in Totana, José Antonio Romera, and the director of the venues permanent members of the UMU, Mercedes Bernabé.
The municipal and academic leaders made a very satisfactory assessment of the two years of experience of the UMU's permanent university extension center in Totana, which was initially headed by totanera teacher María Martínez and promoted, together with the City Council, the development of the first activities .
Both institutions appreciated their mutual and reciprocal collaboration to consolidate this project;
and they advocated for its promotion as a tool to bring the teaching institution closer to the society of the Region of Murcia, not only teachers and students;
beyond the different campuses and physical headquarters of the UMU.
The director José Antonio Romera announced that work is underway to create a coordinating council for the permanent headquarters for university extension in Totana, which would be made up of representatives of both agencies in order to ensure their follow-up;
and he advocated giving it a small specific budget item for activities in this municipality.
In addition, they reviewed some of the activities that have been organized in the last two years, such as concerts, exhibitions and conferences;
and announced the upcoming celebration of a sample on physical activity and disability.
The university extension aims to bring knowledge to any sector of the population encouraging continuous learning, promoting continuous learning, promoting artistic creativity and promoting sports activities in order to bet on a critical and supportive spirit, healthy habits and respect for cultural, social and environmental diversity.
To this end, training activities or analysis of social reality and advice or collaboration in the different areas of community life in the municipality, with public or private entities of Totana are promoted.
Among its functions are the transfer of knowledge resulting from teaching and research that entails university academic work;
and the promotion of culture and awareness among citizens through the promotion of sociological, anthropological and artistic studies.
