The Local Government Board recently approved the extension of the collaboration agreement between the Totanero City Council and the University of Murcia (UMU), four more years, for the maintenance of the permanent headquarters of university extension in this municipality.
The mayor, Andrés García, and the rector of the UMU, José Luján Alcaraz, have to sign the agreement maintaining the general and specific conditions signed in March 2017.
Totana is since May of that same year the permanent extension of the UMU, which will be developed training activities and cultural and sports aimed at all ages, and promoted by this educational institution in this municipality.
The new headquarters was constituted two years ago in the convalescence of the Rectorate of the University, being then rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, and totanero regidor, Juan José Cánovas, respectively.
The extension of the University aimed to bring knowledge to any sector of the population, from childhood to adults, promoting continuous learning, promoting artistic creativity or promoting sports activities, in order to bet on a critical and supportive spirit, for healthy habits and respect for cultural, social and environmental diversity.
Also, among its functions, are basically the promotion of culture and the awareness of citizens in their practice and enjoyment;
and the development of knowledge of the surrounding culture and society through the promotion of sociological, anthropological or artistic studies.
Likewise, work is being carried out to promote training activities or analysis of local reality and its topics of interest and cultural advice and collaboration in the different areas of community life, with public or private entities in Totana.
