The Department of Social Welfare, Public Participation and New Technologies will file a motion to the plenary, to be held on Thursday 29 April , to introduce a new locally accessible service available to the deaf or hard of hearing and language, enable them to contact the emergency municipal services through an instant and SMS messaging, fax or other, that by their technical characteristics as appropriate.
To do so, through this proposal will encourage the Ministry of the Presidency, the Directorate General of Civil Protection of the Autonomous Region of Murcia to take measures to adapt the 112 emergency telephone service to the needs of people with hearing impairment.
This will overcome the obstacles they face a hearing disabled people in its development daily, and especially before the onset of emergencies, in order to improve their quality of life, and it equates in real terms rest of the population, as explained by the council of the Department, Juan Carrión.
In Spain, as reported by the mayor, about one million people suffer some kind of hearing impairment.
For this group is more difficult to access communication situation becomes even more complex when there are certain hazards and emergency where action is needed quickly.
In this regard, he noted that people with hearing deficiencies are a group highly vulnerable and unprotected by the appearance of such adversity given the difficulties that have to contact the services responsible for meeting them.
Therefore, it is necessary to facilitate these people elements and elements for action and function of independently as possible in this type of situation, enabling them to overcome the communication barriers that these occur mainly when the access conditions equal to the standard of emergency services such as police, fire and ambulance, among others.
