After the good results obtained in previous years, the Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle" of Totana, in collaboration with the Service to Diversity of the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment, resumed for the third consecutive year, the innovative educational intervention project known under the name "I-MEDIA: School Mediation Program" which seeks to prevent school violence situations.
This innovative proposal for intervention and mediation in schools, only in the Region of Murcia, has been operating since late October in the school nursery and primary education "San Jose" de Totana, in close collaboration and coordination with the management team and teacher of this school, collaboration without which the success of the project would not have been possible in previous years.
This project, which already has three years experience, has managed to provide the school community a resource for the prevention and school violence situations expressed through peer conflict (students) or between two different parts (student-teacher, family, school, etc.).
Also perform a social intervention in schools while children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds acquire habits of study and an improvement in the field of personal relationships and social skills from them.
The various actions of intervention and mediation in schools focus on five aspects which are covered multiple areas for the mediation efforts, resolution of conflicts arising or already present in the center, an individualized intervention with students who need support Standard development education; intervention in a small group for the development of social competence, work with class group performing a task transverse educational materials (equation values, hygiene and health, etc.) work with families encouraging their participation in the educational process of their children.
In the assessment made in previous years are extracted encouraging results that demonstrate the desirability of intervention and mediation activities in schools where there are situations of conflict or difficulty.
In fact, during the past year decreased by 85% the violent responses of the students participating in the project, through all this to the preventive work and the promotion of mutual respect and peaceful and consensual resolution of conflicts that arise.
During this academic year has begun to speak individually with 16 students and 16 families, and as a group are more than 300 kids who will enjoy this resource through the many activities developed in the school.
