Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and the councilman of Social Welfare and Citizenship, Juan Carrion, attended the special meeting of the Municipal Immigration Council which, among other issues, we evaluated the impact and incidence on group of immigrants is taking the economic crisis and agreed to the establishment of a permanent commission to streamline the approach to the problems suffered by this group.

On the Municipal Immigration Council consists of the Mayor of Totana, as chairman, councilor of Social Welfare, as vice president, and a total of 14 associations and individuals interested in immigration issues, among which were the delegation of Welcomes in Totana Murcia, Totana ATB Association, Association Red, Yellow and Green, FAE Association, FEDASIM, Integra Center, Association of Indigenous Women of Canar, Caritas James Parish, Caritas of the Three Hail Marys, Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle", among others.

The mayor and the council wanted to see first hand the needs presented by the current immigrant population, taking into account the difficult economic situation that is going through.

In this regard, stressed the willingness to enhance municipal care resources to cover basic needs, especially food.

They announced that this provision has resulted in a proposal to the City Council, to be held this Thursday, which contains several steps in this direction in order to ensure the immediate delivery of food to the neediest people in the locality.

On the other hand, municipal officials stressed the importance of associations are socially active in the transmission of proposals to improve the social situation of immigrants in the locality, and encouraged to continue working in this direction by relying on the standing committee as a positive organ in this regard.

During his meeting, we analyzed the various activities and projects of associations and groups of immigrants are scheduled to take place this year to ensure smooth coordination of infrastructure and municipal resources.

The vast majority of the representatives of immigrant groups appreciated the support that the City has provided them in solving their problems and the development of initiatives and events to promote intercultural locally.

Similarly, they noted the importance that the City make an effort and information dissemination among the most vulnerable immigrants and greater ignorance of the environment, the various social resources, as well as take initiatives to promote the provision these immigrants rented homes right from the point of view of its livability and its economic cost.

Finally, all the proposals in the Council moved to the Standing Committee to be addressed in order to give answers as far as possible to them.
