About 200 people participated this morning in the reforestation of one hectare of municipally owned parcel located at the place de la Virgen Blanca in the surroundings of La Santa, in the Natural Park of Sierra Espuņa.
In total, 950 have been planted with native trees and shrubs between Aleppo pines.
This action was carried out under the signature of an agreement signed between the city of Totana and the Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia, after the Plenum adopted unanimously last December.
The Councillor for Environment, Trini Cayuela, with technical Inglelheim Boenhrineger pharmaceutical company, Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) municipal technicians and dozens of people involved in medicine and families have participated this morning in reforestation.
The mayor reported that this action is part of the "floor 02", whose main objective is to contribute to environmental conservation and sustainability of the planet.
The Councillor for Environment explained that the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim is financing the project and the Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) is the technical support in the project.
It has also indicated that it is a national project, which has chosen a municipality in each province and Totana, after technical studies from the Department of Environment of the City, in support of the Directorate General Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, has been selected by the two entities mentioned above for the project.
The afforestation work, as explained Cayuela, have consisted of preparing the ground with a mechanized auger, planting trees, placement of individual biodegradable protective tubes for each plant and the irrigation of support.
Of nearly a thousand trees, volunteers have planted 450 Aleppo pines and other shrubs have made as Romero, brush, Ephedra, Black Thorn, Albaida, Oleander, hackberry, common Fresno, Espino Albar, Madroņo, Elder and Rowan common.
