The Ministry of Tourism and Consumer Affairs has awarded a total of 150,000 euros to the city of Totana to finance the work of management of adjacent areas to the shrine of the sanctuary of Santa Eulalia which have taken place in recent months and are expected to open the autumn once the infrastructure is equipped.
The grant is given to the Consistory totanero in two installments: 60,000 euros in 2008 and 90,000 euros in the annuity of 2009.
These works have included the rehabilitation and adaptation of the outbuildings on the north side and west of the shrine of the patron, which is currently engaged in use as a shop, small museum, Casa del Santero and other agencies without a specific use.
The first phase of these actions, which began running late last summer, has been the recovery of these buildings attached to the Chapel of Santa Eulalia, which has had a budget of more than 162,000 euros, of which the 75% has been funded by the Directorate General of tourism infrastructure, while the rest of the cost it has taken totanero Consistory.
The works have been carried out on two floors: the ground floor will enable the museum, exhibition hall and disclosure, where open spaces are interconnected and located in the northern corner of the building.
On the first floor, there is the audiovisual room, which projected a study center and images of the patron and contents, and a documentation room and archive on the history connected with the sanctuary and the Holy of Totana.
In addition, this area will enable a Centre of Continuing Studies aimed at teachers, researchers and students will operate as a new education provision.
