The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and Councilman Craft, María Isabel Sánchez Ruiz, attended last night to honor all the years made the Craftsmen Association of Totana, Asarta, on the occasion of the feast of Santa Justa and Santa Rufina, patron of potters.
This recognition, which has taken place for over ten years, this year has gone Blas Canovas Canovas, one of the first potters in the village, and at 71 has been recognized for his long career dedicated to this profession.
The ceremony was celebrated with a big dinner, attended by the president of Asarta, Rosa Maria Sainz, and more than fifty local artisans, plus family and friends of the honoree.
The president of Asarta used the occasion to thank the City Council and support collaboration and insisted to continue working with this sector is a species to extinction and even Totana has always boasted of being a city craft and pottery, is currently in decline ".
For his part, Council Member Craft had a few words to the audience and used the occasion to remind the membership of the municipality as a founding member of the Spanish Association of Towns of Ceramics, and made a commitment to continue carrying out various actions to "encourage and enhance the ongoing craft, as far as possible, the requests made by all.
For its part, the mayor said that "we will not allow the pottery in Totana disappear" and as head of the City of Totana made a commitment to do everything possible to the hand of the Association to put all the measures and mechanisms are possible so that "we can enhance the local pottery at the level that it deserves."
Among other things, the mayor recalled inciiativas proposals and implemented by the Consistory regulations to be aimed at financial support of the pottery and the agreement signed for the management of waste generated by potters and potters, among other things.
Finally, the mayor and the president of Asarta they delivered a painting by Eulalia Gonzalez, Blas Canovas Canovas, as a tribute to the potter in the day of their patron saint.
