The Mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, has raised a motion in January full regular order of the City Council of this town start to record the statement of the Carnival of Totana as Regional Tourist Interest by the Community Autonomous Region of Murcia.
The Federation of Carnival Totana submitted a brief in the City Council last October 6, 2015, number 9744, signed by representatives of the different Peñas del Carnaval, requesting collaboration for this holiday is declared by the Autonomous Community as Regional Tourist Interest.
The Federation is currently composed of 22 rocks of Totana and brings together over 1,200 people participate each year, with more care and quality in Carnival parades each year.
As stated in the motion of the Mayor, the Carnival of Totana have seen a major boom in recent years in terms of organization, participation and celebration of parades and complementary activities organized on the occasion of this holiday, thanks to the important work being conducted by the Federation of Peñas Carnival of the town.

Totana City Council and the Federation of Peñas del Carnaval have been working for years in the realization of cultural events such as the Three Kings;

As stated in the proposal, in recent years, the Federation has consolidated numerous cultural and festive activities, which have the invaluable collaboration of the Consistory, and which continued during the weeks leading up to the celebration of Mardi Gras parades .
Among these are exhibitions, Gala Dinner powers to change the Musa and Don Carnal, Gala-opening speech, the Golden Mask Award, Coexistence of Clubs and Groups in regional parades as the Burial of the Sardine, festivals and carnivals in other municipalities among others, creating a new parade of foreign clubs, and so on.
They have also been established and recovered activities that were lost as the parade of the traditional "Mardi Gras" with masks on San Cristobal, photo contests, talks and visits to schools and centers of Totana and other cultural and festive activities, representation protocol and parades as guests in other Carnival festivities in the Region of Murcia and Alicante.
