The public library "Matthew Smith" of Totana, located on the first floor of the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail" has received a batch of 151 new books in the framework of the annual call for "Reading Promotion Maria Moliner" which comes to expand the holdings of such municipal infrastructure.

The Councillor for Education and Culture, Eulalia Moreno, and the service technician, Isabel Roman, realized the delivery of this recognition is the result of the program of activities to encourage reading public library organized every year in this locality, and that are aimed at schools and users in general.

The campaign of "Reading Promotion Maria Moliner" is a competition for municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, through which the best projects or activities developed in their reading dynamic libraries are awarded, with the aim of promoting reading among all social groups, especially among children and young people, which form the basis of future adult readers.

This is done with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and, since 2002, also with the "Coca-Cola" Foundation.

This campaign is rewarded 300 Spanish libraries receiving lots for books bibliographic compounds selected from the developments of each year and paying special attention to the titles for children and young character.

This selection of books intended to also be a sign of literary production and the current artwork.

Since 2002, the three best projects also receive prize money which finances the "Coca-Cola" Foundation.

This action is encouraged small municipalities and advocacy reading develops in places where there is very often a difficult access to books, he explained the mayor of Education and Culture.

This program presents a great strategic importance, since about half of the Spanish population lives in municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, so that this initiative aims to generate a great impact on the territory.

In recent editions, the response of the municipalities has been very positive, having been presented to date more than 10,000 projects by more than 2,200 municipalities.

The Evaluation Committee of the XVI campaign "Reading Promotion Maria Moliner" convened by the institutions mentioned above, has selected the 300 best projects promoting reading presented by municipal libraries throughout Spain.

The selection process is conducted by analyzing a number of criteria, which takes into account the clarity and focus of the project for reading promotion, good planning and feasibility, as well as originality and immersion in new embodying the proposed technologies.

The campaign of "Reading Promotion Maria Moliner" has had throughout all editions with more than 11,000 projects submitted and more than 2,500 participating municipalities.

More than 50 percent of the 4,526 municipalities with fewer than 50,000 people have attended sometime this initiative, making Totana repeatedly.

The council took the opportunity to present the new Facebook page of the municipal library "Matthew Smith", created with the objective of an information tool for public service users and book lovers in general.

cultural activities and events center, book recommendations, developments in the funds, broadcast pictures on this municipal service.
