Totana City Council has given to the Community Irrigation farm known as the "IRYDA", located in the place "The Fleet" to build rainwater collection tanks from the Ramblas Cemetery, La Santa and The Pears allow reuse in the field by members of the Community of Irrigators of the town.
The mayor, Isabel Maria Sanchez, and the president of the Community Irrigation Totana, Juan Pagan, have signed the cooperation agreement between the two institutions and execution to ensure the construction of the necessary infrastructure rainwater harvesting.
The council has undertaken the free transfer by deed of land that will host the infrastructure to build the Community Irrigation for proper utilization of rainwater.
The idea is its use as irrigation water for totanero field from the three gullies that cross the town of Totana and today is lost in times of heavy rainfall.
The signing took place at the beginning of the Ordinary General Assembly that the Community Irrigation held in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail".
The cost of the work required to build such tanks shall be borne by the Community Irrigation, while its supervision will be by the municipal technicians.
In addition, the commoner entity shall assume their property and will, upon completion of these, maintenance and exploitation for agricultural use.
The mayor stressed the importance of this agreement for the future of totanero field and to provide the necessary infrastructure to the municipality that contribute to the achievement of a resource, such as water, essential for the development of agriculture in Totana, which is the pillar basics of the local economy.
He also thanked the Community Irrigation, and its president in particular, their willingness to make this project which will solve a "historical problem" for a sustainable and responsible use of natural resources not used today.
