The City Council plans to promote measures Totana bonus on water bills to the poorest families or with problems of social exclusion, for which various options are being considered as the inclusion of a social tariff to ensure adequate support to families with few resources or flat rate system.
Measures are yet to be defined or narrow by a working committee comprising councilors and Social Care Services for the City, Josefa María Sánchez and María José Bedia, and representatives of the Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle".
This association has been working for months on the Internet to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion in the Region of Murcia (EAPN-RM) with respect to cuts in water supply for reasons of non-payment to families with little or no resources economic.
The Councillor for Social Care, Josefa María Sánchez explained that several options are being considered as increasing social funds to continue supporting the most disadvantaged families or develop or expand a city ordinance to collect these bonuses in water bills.
The mayor said that the working group has set up amid concerns of families unable to cope with debts water bill and thanked the Collective "The Candle" his great contribution and expertise in the development of these measures , while noting that these measures may reach a hundred families benefit of Totana.
"The Candle" valued as a good practice to respect the human right to water that the city of Totana is exercising as well as the redistricting of Water Service.
