During this week and next, the coral Musicalis Totana Vox, directed by Pedro Perez, offered in various concerts the play "The Seven Sorrows of Mary" by Mariano Garcia and Simon Espin, as part of its Easter performances.
The program is divided into two parts: the first, dedicated especially to the figure of the Mother of God, including "The Seven Sorrows of Mary", the authors Murcia Mariano Garcia and Simon Espin.
Mariano García (1836 - 1906) was choirmaster at the Cathedral of Murcia, and composed works for orchestra and organ in various genres.
According to some sources this work, composed for soloists, chorus and organ-Totana reached due to Mariano García family kinship with people of this locality.
From that moment Totana popularized in his interpretation, which has come down to us thanks to a chorus of women for more than 50 years gathered to test them and interpret them in the ninth organized by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows to its titular image, the Virgin of Sorrows.
The first part of the work program concludes with "Stabat Mater" by Juan Miguel Marin (1867 - 1929), a famous music composer totanero passion and founder, in 1890, the orchestra of that Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows in Totana .
The second part of the program focuses on current church music from the last third of the twentieth century, including works by authors Bob Chilcott, George Fenton, Sherry Porterfield, John Rutter and Josep Vila, for chorus a cappella and with piano accompaniment , which will be headed by Maria de los Angeles Ayala and Juan Carlos Fernandez.
The first of these shows took place last Sunday at the Church of San Miguel Arcangel de Murcia.
Other concerts will be held on Saturday 23 in Puerto de Mazarrón (Church of San Jose, 20.30 h.) And Holy Tuesday in Mazarrón (Church of the Immaculate, 20.30 h.).
Also, this Friday (Good Friday) Vox Musicalis music will last Triduum Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows, and then offered in concert "The Seven Sorrows of Mary" (Church of St. James the Greater, 19.45 h. Approx. ).
