The inauguration of the conference, which brings together over 220 people from different parts of Spain, professionals, patients, scientists and experts in this field of activity, visited the mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sánchez, President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the government delegate, Joaquin Bascuñana, the Minister of Health, Mari Ãngeles Palacios, including regional and local authorities.

For its part, Health Minister Ana Mato, announced the declaration of 2013 as the Year next Spanish Rare Diseases.

The goal, he explained, is to bring people to the knowledge of the diseases considered rare, to "establish ties of mutual aid more intense" and also "arouse the interest of new researchers, healthcare professionals and industry, and continue to advance the understanding and treatment of these diseases. "

Spanish Year's statement, along with adherence to the declaration of 2016 as International Year of Rare Diseases Research, are two of the steps taken by the Government to address the "challenge" posed by these diseases.
