The Health Minister Ana Mato, today signed the guest book Totana City Council during the inauguration of the V National Congress of Rare Diseases to be held this weekend in Totana organized by the Spanish Federation of Families of patients with these ailments (ERDF) together with the Association for Rare Diseases "D'GENES" Totana.
The inauguration of the conference, which brings together over 220 people from different parts of Spain, professionals, patients, scientists and experts in this field of activity, visited the mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sánchez, President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the government delegate, Joaquin Bascuñana, the Minister of Health, Mari Ãngeles Palacios, including regional and local authorities.
During his speech, the mayor thanked the hard work carried out by the association totanera hand of its president, Naca Pérez de Tudela, and President of the National Federation, Juan Carrion, as each year more consolidated unanimously the work they do for the sick and families suffering from these ailments.
In this regard, he indicated that they have been, along with the help of many people who have put on public display the existence and reality of these patients.
He has also stated that it is obvious and necessary to create and implement reference centers and services that enable equal opportunities also to ensure access to and enjoyment of those rights recognized by people with common diseases.
2013, Spanish Year of Rare Diseases
For its part, Health Minister Ana Mato, announced the declaration of 2013 as the Year next Spanish Rare Diseases.
The goal, he explained, is to bring people to the knowledge of the diseases considered rare, to "establish ties of mutual aid more intense" and also "arouse the interest of new researchers, healthcare professionals and industry, and continue to advance the understanding and treatment of these diseases. "
Spanish Year's statement, along with adherence to the declaration of 2016 as International Year of Rare Diseases Research, are two of the steps taken by the Government to address the "challenge" posed by these diseases.
Mato said that since the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, "we provide individualized responses to each situation," and offer "a multidisciplinary approach and attention to socio", which are considered the needs of patients "not only from the physical point of view, but also from the healthcare field, psychological, economic and social.
