The Department of Social Services, Citizen Participation and Neighborhood Collective has organized a program of awareness raising and combating racial discrimination and xenophobia, under the title "A Sea of ​​values," will take place over the next quarter and brings together many initiatives of different kinds of awareness.

This list of events held to coincide with International Day against Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia to be held on March 21 and has the support of numerous social groups and associations working in this field of activity.

The branch councilor, Josefa Maria Sanchez, presented the program of events and explained it aims to raise awareness about the problem of racism and discrimination against any racial and ethnic identity.

The program, which is basically aimed at the population residing in Totana both native and ethnic minorities, is funded by the European Fund for Integration of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, within the project "Promotion of socio-community access to resources for participation social and civic life. Among these include a multicultural football championship under the slogan "We are all one," literacy activities, intercultural storytelling, children's workshops to raise awareness of values, the exhibition "The map of intolerance", drawing contests, awareness workshops schools and lectures, among others.

The commemoration of March 21 to mark the International Day against racial discrimination and xenophobia include reading the manifesto, delivery of brooches made by students identifying Occupational Center "José Moya Trilla" typical Arab and Bulgarian workshops and football games against intolerance.

The mayor stressed that these activities aim to foster attitudes of respect and understanding, preventing possible conflicts arising from the coexistence of different cultures in this municipality.

Sanchez Mendez thanked all organizations and groups that have collaborated with the City Council in making this program and invited people to participate in totanera such awareness events to promote intercultural values.

The participating institutions are Manos Unidas, Movement Against Intolerance, FADE, Association Red, Yellow and Green Totana, Murcia Welcomes, Peña Barcelonista Totana and nurseries.

Finally, he made a positive assessment of the activity "Solidarity Square" that was held last weekend at the Plaza de la Balsa Vieja and in which the associative concerned presented their projects in a space in which entities could buy, sell and trade items in order to finance itself.

The mayor announced that both the Department and the participating institutions want to repeat this experience before the end of 2012.
