Adif has started work on assembling a conventional route in the section between stations Totana and Lorca (Murcia).

These works are part of the Mediterranean High Speed Corridor that runs between Murcia and Almeria.

The works between Totana and Lorca are carried out in the current conventional line on a path of 7.6 km, between mile markers 41/580 and 49/235, which has built Adif as a variant of existing infrastructure.

The construction of the project, which planned investment amounting to 22,021,844.5 euros (VAT included), is the definition of the new platform of two international gauge tracks, which will run alongside the Iberian gauge single track current thereby improving their characteristics.

This high-speed route involves the construction of three ways: two standard gauge for high-speed trains and conventional gauge for freight trains, commuter and regional.

The section view of the assembly site of a standard gauge track in that variation between Lorca and Totana includes implementation of a service road parallel to the trace and the replacement of non-rail services.

Within the execution of the work, plans to build two underpasses and installation of 19 cross drainage works, and the renewal and replacement of affected services.

The actions carried out in various parts of that section-Lorca Totana correspond to the mounting of one of the standard gauge tracks with subsequent commissioning of the new variant.

Mounting the pathway requires the use of such rails UIC-60 in bars over 200 m in length which are then welded by aluminothermic welding.

Ballast is used with a silicon thickness of 30 cm in cross.

The sleepers are of a polyvalent elastic fasteners.

The High Speed Line Murcia-Almería has an approximate length of 184 kilometers, of which 108 km flow through the province of Almeria and the remaining 76 by the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

European funding

The High Speed Line Murcia-Almeria is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Operational Programme 2007-2013 ERDF and Cohesion Operational Programme of Murcia 2007-2013.

The European Investment Bank also participates in the financing of high-speed lines.
