The mayor, Isabel Maria Sanchez, and Councillor for Citizen Participation, Josefa María Sánchez, today offered a corporate reception to welcome Sahrawi four children this summer by families of Totana, in the framework of the "Holidays in peace in the region of Murcia ".

The event was attended by representatives of the beneficiaries and foster families, and the president of the Association "Holiday Peace Region of Murcia", Nuria Bureau, which coordinates the project host Saharawi children in families from different municipalities of the autonomous region.

Totana are a total of three families that take in four children Saharawi a boy and three girls, whose duration is two months from 1 July to 30 August respectively.

This solidarity action to host the summer of Saharawi children is part of that program being conducted in the municipality for more than 10 years, and in which the City has been working actively.

The program is aimed at families who want to share your life with children who were born in the Sahara from disadvantaged backgrounds have entered over the summer months in their homes.

With all this, is to alienate the children from the harsh living conditions in the Tindouf refugee camps during the summer, giving them the opportunity to enjoy and live for two months in a different environment to that of permanent tension of the situation arising refugee and war to which they are subjected.

Similarly, they are given during their stay overcoming health and food shortages and is used to enrich their knowledge of Spanish, among others.

This program also helps to raise awareness of the region need to be in solidarity with other peoples situations less fortunate, and enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the traditional and historic friendship between the Saharawi people and the Spanish people.

In this edition have been 167 Saharawi children taken in by families in different municipalities in Murcia, a score less than the previous year.
