The City Council of Totana, through the Social Welfare Department, will implement the measures work, social and cultural, to be included in the Municipal Plan II Immigrant Integration, a pioneering initiative in the Region of Murcia which aims to facilitate the channels of the immigrant population living resident in the municipality.
The councilman of Social Welfare and head of the Department of Immigration, Juan Carrion Tudela reported that currently the Department technicians are working and evaluating the bases that settled the document of this second plan, intended as a comprehensive program that requires participation of all social groups, political parties and immigrant assistance organizations operating in Totana and the Sectoral Council on Immigration, which will analyze the situation and demands of this group.
In this sense, the mayor noted that the Immigration Sector Council is a consultative body that are present in all groups and associations that work with immigrants in the county, and is composed of the mayor, councilor, representatives of the three political groups, a municipal, a representative of the immigrant associations and five sensitized and interested citizens in this area.
The mayor stressed the important role carried out by the Sectoral Council on Immigration citizen participation, and that to complement the work of this body has created an "Area of Intercultural Encounter," where every month, experts and representatives of associations of Totana meet every month to analyze and evaluate the different situations and needs of this group.
It also intends to translate a document, by way of regulation, rights and obligations as the immigrant in order to promote initiatives which enable social inclusion and mainstreaming work of this group.
Juan Carrión said these global actions they aim to respond to the needs of immigrants living in Totana but also channeling some difficulties with their native population as in the case of the labor market and predicted that this is a good point basis for other municipalities with large immigrant population.
Carrion said Totana has been doing for several years, various actions on immigration, always in collaboration with the Autonomous Region and central government, noting that in December 2003 the Council signed the first agreement of partnership for development integration programs for immigrants.
In this sense, the mayor pointed out some initiatives such as the publication of "Guide to Immigrant" as an instrument "teaching and learning" for immigrants who come to Totana may have an unmet need for information and access to resources public of the municipality.
He also mentioned the new municipal services and resources put in place for the integration of immigrants and local intercultural coexistence, stressing training services and translation-interpreting launched recently.
He also explained the proposed activities within the training program such as remedial classes Castilian, other basic skills, basic social skills workshop for employment and social participation, course of health education, workshop and home improvement home, and expression-building workshops (sewing, cooking), and activities to learn about the environment (resources, institutions, customs, rights and duties), among other things.
This activity also served to know and to collect suggestions, opinions and interests of these persons in relation to the development of proposed activities from these services and plan future actions related to care, integration of immigrant collective
Looking at September, will be presented the Second Municipal Plan and Integration of Immigrants Living in the town of Totana, whose history of this plan back to the year 2005 when I created the Municipal Plan for the Integration of Totana.
