The mayor, Andrés García, and the Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, have met with representatives of the IES of the IES "Prado Mayor" to set a strategy before the Ministry of Education that allows the urgent need to build the fourth classroom of this center of teaching, a pressing demand that the educational community of the IES has.

In addition, in the course of the meeting it was agreed to immediately request an interview with the General Directorate of Centers to address this issue, which has been causing numerous inconveniences to teachers and students of the institute during this course;

as well as solving the problem of massification of Secondary Education in this municipality.

Precisely, the Plenary of Totana approved, in its ordinary session of October, unanimously, to demand from the Ministry of Education the execution of the project already prepared and budgeted for the construction of the 4th class of the IES "Prado Mayor";

and that it was already requested and approved unanimously in the plenary session of February 2016.

In addition, it was agreed to urge the Ministry to cover, immediately, the needs of the center in regard to the lack of tables and chairs so that students can receive classes under equal conditions fulfilling the obligations to offer a quality education.

The Secondary Education Institute "Prado Mayor" has gone from having 726 students in the 2014/2015 course to 985 students in the course that has just started, without any investment having been made to compensate for the increase in students.

This situation occurs despite the fact that already in 2011 the Ministry recognized the need to make investments in this regard, since it tendered the drafting of the basic project and execution of expansion of the aulario of said educational center.

This lack of infrastructure has been the reason why even the Schooling Commission of Totana, in that year and in previous years, has decided to increase the ratio of students per class in this municipality, a circumstance that directly affects the quality of teaching of the secondary schools of this municipality, which is inadmissible.

The IES presents an unfortunate situation derived, in addition, from the insufficiency of classrooms and furniture, since there are around 50 tables and chairs, so the Department of Education is going to be required to take immediate action.
