Municipal authorities have recently met with the Minister of Education, Adela Martínez-Cachá, and with representatives of its management team in the Ministry to give an account of the needs of schools in Totana in the face of the start of the new school year 2017 / 2018 in this municipality.
The mayor, Andrés García, and the Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, held the meeting at the end of last August, before officially starting the new school year;
and in the same were also present the general directors of Educational Centers and Human Resources and Educational Planning, Maria Remedios Lajara and Juana Mulero, respectively.
The meeting was requested at the time by the Councilor for Education after the remodeling of the regional government.
The mayor recalls that last July we met the Councilors of Education of the Region of Murcia in the Ministry to tell us their intentions and projects in this new stage.
Among these, the need to set up a working group to specify the competencies of City Hall and the Ministry in the interventions in the schools and put in place a plan to change covers or to make necessary updates in the centers to be able to withstand the heat summer.
The meeting analyzed the needs of the different centers of the municipality and reviewed the actions that the municipal government understands that are the competence of the Ministry,
and in some that from the Town hall can not be solved, according to the mayor.
Among the needs of schools in Totana that were raised are the covers of CEIP "Santa Eulalia" and CEIP "Santiago", as well as emergency stairs of the same centers.
They also raised the need to change some outstanding doors of CEIP "Santiago" and the perimeter fence of CEIP "Comarcal-Deitania", and the extension of electric power of educational centers that by their seniority do not have sufficient capacity to cover their needs.
In this regard, the situation of the College of Lébor was stressed, which has to be subsist with a generator from the town hall.
In addition, we discussed the state of the school transportation that comes from the urbanization "La Charca" that passes through the IES "Juan de la Cierva" and can not pick up the students who are in the IES "Prado Mayor".
Also, the expansion of CEIP "Comarcal-Deitania" transportation to CEIP "Luis Pérez Rueda" was discussed, the convenience of building two new classrooms in the "Santiago" CEIP to respond to the demands of the educational community and the need to solve the problem of the creation of ghettos in certain centers to improve the general situation of the centers of the municipality.
