The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, accompanied by the council of the Environment, Trini Cayuela, and Planning and Development, María José Bedia, and the representative of the Trade "PROMOVALCI 2005 SL" have signed the contract reforestation works environmental concerns in the area of La Santa.
The amount of the award of these works, which will allow the hiring of 35 people, along with the improvements offered by the company, over 200,000 euros, and have a lead time of five months.
This environmental project, to be funded through the State Fund for the Promotion of Local Employment and Sustainability 2010, prevent forest fires and increase the diversity of flora and fauna in the place of the sanctuary of Santa through reclamation works, conservation, reforestation of Mount of the Holy, as explained Councilwoman Environment.
The performance area is located on Mount No. 83, the hamlet of La Santa, in the natural park of Sierra Espuña.
The objectives of these activities under the project, as reported Cayuela, are to prevent forest fires, by varying the model of forest fuel and disposing of large volumes of debris, reduce the risk of pests that threaten the health of forests, and increase biodiversity or biological diversity, which implies directly increase the diversity of flora and indirectly the diversity of fauna.
Also, as explained by the mayor, will take the steps necessary to control erosion and prevent desertification, to improve the soil permeability and water retention, with the importance that this implies, and improving the adequacy of roads, accessibility and lighting of the area.
In this way, said that being a semi-arid area, is to avoid the loss of scenic quality of forest ecosystems, and proceed to reforestation with native species.
In this regard, the mayor of Totana has expressed its satisfaction with the procurement of these works, and that in two years of the mandate "we have made great achievements and objectives for Totana, and so we start the second most important project on environmental matters ".
Finally, the municipal councilor said the commitment by the company that is responsible for the execution of works, to proceed with the recruitment of unemployed people out of Totana, as well as the benefits that arise from the construction of this infrastructure will fall in local companies.
