The Plenary Session of the City Council of Totana has recently supported, in its last ordinary session, a package of measures aimed at reversing, as far as possible, the current situation and the progressive deterioration suffered by the Mar Menor.

The corporate agreed, with the votes in favor of all municipal groups and the abstention of Vox, the motion of Win Totana-IU on request for measures in the face of the serious situation presented by the lagoon.

The proposals included in the motion refer to the immediate application, and in its entirety, of the measures included in the Law on Urgent Measures for the Sustainability of the Mar Menor, as well as in the recently approved Comprehensive Management Plan.

The Totanera Corporation advocates the creation of a Joint Commission that includes the three competent Administrations - regional, state and European - that coordinate and monitor the implementation of the previous legislative measures and periodically and publicly report on the progress That are produced.

Similarly, it is demanded to decree an immediate urban moratorium in the Mar Menor environment, and the immediate closure of illegal irrigation in the Campo de Cartagena and its surroundings that affect the Mar Menor.

It also calls for the immediate start-up of the measures contemplated in the Discharge Plan 0, and to demand that all the positions with responsibility in the regional and central Administration assume their responsibilities, resigning their positions who still remain in them for his incapacity and abandonment of functions in these years.

The Municipal Corporation will request the European Commission, through the Petitions Commission, the intervention of European institutions with competence in the matter to establish executive measures for monitoring and control of the application, and compliance with European legislation in Regarding the protection and care of the Mar Menor.

Similarly, the Government of Spain will be requested to provide all the necessary human, economic and technical resources to the Prosecutor of the TSJ of the Region of Murcia to carry out the investigation initiated on the deaths of fish in the Sea Minor, and conclude as soon as possible the proceedings opened months ago on the use of wells and other irregularities of irrigation in the Campo de Cartagena and surroundings of the Mar Menor.

In the motion approved by the plenary, it is pointed out that there is sufficient legislation to alleviate and reverse the situation, in addition to other norms in project or processing such as the expected Plan Vertido 0 or the Integral Law of the Mar Menor, and it is committed to greater will policy to apply them.

Among these, they underline the Law on Urgent Measures for the Sustainability of the Mar Menor and its environment approved in February 2017 and which has practically not been applied in any of its articles;

or the space management measures that must be included in the Comprehensive Management Plan, which has taken 27 years to be approved by the Government Council of the Region of Murcia, but which will take time to implement.
