The initiatives have been presented following the guidelines of the order of June 6, 2018 directed exclusively for municipalities with municipally owned deposits and a maximum eligible amount of 100,000 euros

The Department of Archaeological Sites of the City of Totana has recently presented two finalist projects before the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in order to obtain funding to undertake actions of conservation, restoration, conditioning, improvement of media and consolidation of architectural structures from the La Bastida site.

The first deputy mayor and councilor of the branch, Juan José Cánovas, has given an account of the procedure carried out by his department under the regional order of June 6, 2018 that is directed exclusively to municipalities with archaeological sites of municipal ownership.

The total subsidy available to the Ministry for these projects amounts to 500,000 euros, so that the maximum eligible amount is 100,000 euros in each case;

so the Totanero Town Hall would opt for this financing as much in any case, as explained by Cánovas.

The council of Archaeological Sites reported that they have submitted two projects that aim to improve the activity and maintenance of this site, and were approved last week by the Local Government Board.

Both have been prepared, at the request of their department, on the one hand, by a group of professional technical archaeologists in this field, and on the other, by the expert archaeologists themselves from the Autonomous University of Barcelona who manage the site;

to whom he thanked all of them for their commitment because they have done so altruistically.

The project of conservation, restoration and conditioning of the site aims to establish immediately and scheduled over time its conservation, maintenance and adaptation for the plan of visits to the large public not specialized or trained in archaeological issues.

The purpose of this is to enhance its value, stopping its deterioration, consolidating its structures and making its contents more visible and understandable to the general public visiting the site, he said.

This first project contemplates a total cost of 100,000 euros and would entail a municipal contribution of 15% of it.

The second of the projects referred to the call of the Autonomous Community refers to the improvement of means of dissemination and consolidation of prehistoric architectural structures in the archaeological site, whose cost would amount to 95,913.90 euros, of which the totanero Consistory would contribute 16% of it.

This action is aimed at alleviating and correcting the effects caused by erosive agents on prehistoric architectural structures;

and expand the preservation, conservation and dissemination-musealization devices installed as a result of the previous interventions.

The councilor recalled that the site is subject to numerous hazards and geography and geophysical risks, such as ravines and the Rambla de Lébor, which concern the City Council especially in times of cold drop as recently experienced.

Finally, the mayor Juan José Cánovas announced that the Ministry will open another line of research grants to which different organizations can attend different administrations;

so he advocated to support and collaborate from the municipal institution with academic entities such as the UAB that can present their projects to obtain funding for this site.
