With the expansion and upgrading of sidewalks on both banks

The Department of Works and Infrastructures began last week the works of extension and conditioning of the sidewalks in Juan XXIII Street that aim to improve accessibility and boost this commercial space of the urban area.

The mayor, Andrés García, and the councilor of Obras e Infraestructuras, Víctor Balsas, have recently visited the works that will last until about mid-August.

The works consist of extending the sidewalks of this street, with a budget of 26,300 euros, of which 14,000 euros come from a grant from the General Directorate of Commerce, while the remaining 13,000 correspond to municipal financing.

On the right and left sides of the road, the sidewalks will be enlarged from about 50 centimeters to one meter and fifty approximately in the right;

and on the left, it will be set back a little more, going from two meters twenty to one meter eighty to improve accessibility, making the town more inclusive and supportive of people with reduced mobility, the mayor explained.

Balsas added that this is "the line in which we have to move forward little by little", and he recalled that there have been performances on Santa Eulalia Avenue, San Antonio Street and Juan Carlos I Avenue, planning the future of the municipality improving quality of life and public spaces to walk in a comfortable and dignified way.

He also explained that this is a first phase in Juan XXIII street and reported that it has also been approved in the Local Government Board improvement of services in the street La Fuente to change the street lighting of these two streets, passing lights low consumption led to improve the lighting of downtown and commercial roads.

For this reason, neighbors, drivers, pedestrians and users are asked to be understandable with this situation and forgive the inconvenience caused during the duration of the works, approximately one month;

At the same time it is suggested the possibility of avoiding the use of vehicles to access the roads adjoining the site of the works.

This important commercial street is cut in the traffic direction from its intersections with the Presbítero Ramírez and Cuartelillo roads, respectively.

The traffic on this road is cut off definitively while the works are being carried out, although the corresponding horizontal and vertical signs have been made in the area in order to enable the transit of vehicles along the adjacent roads.

The actions are being carried out by the company "Constu-Archena, SL", whose minor contract affects the conditioning of the sidewalks in Juan XXIII street, between José Antonio Requena and Juan de la Cierva streets of this town, for a total amount of 26,287.25 euros.

This action is part of the subsidies of the General Directorate of Trade, Consumption and Administrative Simplification to the municipalities, within the plan to finance actions and investments for the reactivation of open shopping centers for the adaptation of municipal infrastructures to the exercise of retail trade for improvement of its competitiveness
