The councilor of Archaeological Sites, Juan José Cánovas, has announced that his department is going to raise a motion to the full ordinary of May in which he will ask the Autonomous Community that the pieces stolen in the Argaric archaeological site of La Bastida, within the framework of the operation "Idolillo" , return to Totana for your exhibition in the future museum of the city.
The operation "Idolillo" carried out by the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has culminated this week with the recovery of about ten thousand pieces of great paleontological and archaeological value, which has culminated with the recovery of this important collection that was in private hands
The pieces comprise a very broad chronological period, from prehistory to the Visigothic period, which is why it can be considered the most relevant private collection seized so far in the region.
The Department of Archaeological Sites aims that, once classified by the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, be transferred to the City of Totana to be exposed in the project of the future Museum of La Bastida de Totana, whose pretension of this department is to be projected in the building of the old Technological Center of Handicrafts, in the area of ​​Las Ollerías.
The councilor advocates that the Autonomous Community can deposit the stolen pieces of the archaeological site of La Bastida following the same procedure that has been made with the archaeological heritage of La Almoloya in the Museum City of Mula.
The pieces, which are now kept in the Intermediate Archive of the Archaeological Museum of Murcia for study and cataloging, include objects of various kinds, from prehistoric axes and arrows, to ceramic vessels, bronze votives, bronze, silver and gold coins , amphoras, necklaces, ritual objects or domestic pieces, among others.
According to the investigations of the Civil Guard, a collector fond of archeology collected this interesting collection over decades, since the 60s, and estimate that he himself participated in archaeological excavations and even financed them, staying with part of their findings and working himself in its conservation and cataloging.
This person kept all his findings in a private home in an urbanization of Murcia and, when he died, his belongings went to his heirs.
